HIGH-ALTITUDE WINES: PROPERTIES AND ADVANTAGES

High altitude vineyard is a world apart. At more than 900 meters above sea level, the wines acquire distinctive characteristics that make them especially appreciated. In Prades winery, we work in these unique conditions to create wines with a soul of mountain, connected to the environment, the landscape and the weather.
The thermal contrast between day and night favors slow and balanced ripening of the grapes, which preserves the aromas better and increases the natural acidity. This thermal balance translates into fresher, more elegant and longer-lasting wines. The high daytime temperatures they promote sugar concentration, while the nighttime coolness preserves vitality of the fruit and highlights its finest aromas.
Mountain soils are another key element. Often poor in organic matter but rich in minerals, they bring a subtle complexity to the wine, reflecting the geology of the place. This minerality can be expressed in the form of salty, earthy or spicy notes that give depth and structure in the wine.
In addition, the dry and ventilated climate limits pests and diseases, making viticulture viable.
ecological with fewer interventions. Thus, the wine more faithfully reflects its environment.
Without the use of synthetic products, the vine adapts better to its environment and creates purer wines, vivid and representative.
Our high altitude wines are a direct expression of the territory. They have a personality marked, they are alive on the nose and in the mouth, and they leave a mark on those who taste them. They are wines that are not only drunk, but are remembered. In each glass, there is the trace of the mountain, the wind, the stone and the sun. Making wine at 900 meters is not easy, but it is precisely this difficulty that gives rise to wines with soul.
